OUTFIT PLANNING MADE EASY
THE RESEARCH
THE CHALLENGE
Waking up for work on a Monday morning, a lot of women don’t have the time or energy to plan out an outfit, much less one that meets the weather outside, their style, and the event or occasion they will encounter. On top of that, our closets are full of clothes we may not even know we have or how to put them together into a cohesive look. Tailor'd solves this by presenting curated outfits for the day based on factors like the weather forecast in your area, your own personal clothes, your style, and the event or activity you will be attending. Never again will you stand in front of your closet spending precious minutes from your day trying to plan what to wear. Let Tailor'd do the thinking and work for you.
THE USERS
As part of discovery, we conducted initial interviews to determine need, pain-points, and target audience. Of those who agreed to be interviewed initially, 85.7% were women ages 25-35. On average users spent 0-20 minutes every day planning an outfit, and 57.2% found that process to be somewhat difficult. When planning an outfit all users took things like precipitation and temperature into account.

Following these initial interviews, five women were selected for a more in depth interview session to determine their wants and desires in a fashion and outfit planning app. These women became the basis for the three user types created for the App.
THE PAIN POINTS
To determine pain points, an analysis of competitors was conducted and later user interviews were included to round out the pain-point research. This research was key to the planning and design of Tailor'd.

Three direct competitors of Tailor'd were analyzed and the number-one pain point was too much clutter and features that made the apps hard to use and hard to navigate. The second biggest pain point was difficulty or time consuming steps needed to upload clothing to the virtual closets. The competitors that were analyzed were robust, but that robustness ended up being more than users wanted or needed.By conducting interviews, we were able to strip back to the essentials that users really wanted and needed, while clearing out the clutter.

During this, a couple of things became clear really quickly:
-
There needed to be one dedicated section to the user where they can update their preferences, settings, and find help documentation to guide them in their desired actions.
-
In order to view their clothes and accessories, users need to be able to access these through a virtual closet, or alternatively, they can find specific items through the search. This offers the user different ways, so they can chose the most comfortable one
-
The home page / start screen should offer the three outfit suggestions. Within this screen, users can perform further actions to filter down or update preferences to get an more accurate outfit suggestion.
-
The option to see past outfit suggestions, or to favorite a suggestion should be granted to users.
